A Big Welcome to My New Nephew

This lovely little munchkin is my new nephew, Joshua Stephen Grasser. He was born on 10 September (already two weeks old)!

Joshua lives with his Mummy (my sister Tracy) in Holly Springs, North Carolina. Isn't he cute? Look at his cute hair and his lovely lips...

I AM BACK!!

Oh the joy! Oh the excitement! The courier arrived about 3pm this afternoon with my lovely new Dell laptop. I got it in white so I could pretend to be a Mac.

Anyway, as I had three little kiddies hovering around, all I could do was read the set up guide and wait for their bed time!! I got it set up as easy as a wink and have been surfing for a while, checking out all the blogs I read etc.

And I have joined Facebook! Hopefully I will have oodles of "Friend confirmations" in my inbox tomorrow.

The laptop is great. I am even finding the weeny keyboard and mouse thing easy. Hardly any cords under the computer desk!!

And you will be pleased to know that I am taking our old desktop down to the E Waste Day on October 4.

Daylight saving starts this weekend!! It will be great to have the extra daylight, and to have darker mornings. I am waking up waaay too early at the moment!!! However I am not looking forward to Sunday morning because I am on music team. I usually have to be there an hour and 15 before the service and this week it will be like two hours & fifteen...:(

Computer Troubles...

Well! The reason for my lengthy absence from the WWW is that my computer has crashed!!

So I am presently at Sarah & Martin's. They are busy in the garden, enjoying the sunshine, while I am tucked away in their office.

Me & Jamie decided to buy a laptop, so I ordered one from Dell yesterday. I think it will be a few more weeks before it arrives. Last time the computer had problems, it cost over $300 to fix. So if I pay that again, it is more than half the price of a new computer!

I don't have all day, so I shall leave it there.

Another busy day has passed. We looked after Chelsea again, and we will see her on Thursday too. All the kids had a great morning at coffee group.

This afternoon the clouds finally disappeared and the boys exhausted themselves playing outside. I have just put them to bed, a little earlier than usual.

Tonight I plan on a little "Third Watch" viewing. I mentioned it on my last posts - I rented out the whole first season on DVD. Over 15 hours of viewing! I'm not even sure if we are half way through...

Sleepwalker

I think I witnessed some sleep walking from Lachie last night!

I was watching an episode of our all time favourite TV show, (Third Watch) and Lachie appeared in the kitchen. He didn't say anything (highly unusual!) and then stumbled into the lounge. By then I realised he was sleep walking so I walked him back to his bed and tucked him in again. Again, not a word was said and he was "back to sleep"!!

A busy few days...

Our week was much the same as usual, grocery day Monday, coffee group Tuesday, work Wednesday.

Thursday and Friday we had Chelsea both days. Her Granny is away in Samoa so we needed to help out for an extra day. We went to the playground on both days. The kids had a great time, and we stayed so long, they were ready to leave and it wasn't a drama trying to get them into the car!!Fletcher had a great time going down the little slide. He even went up the really big slide. He's a very courageous boy!!

Lachie had a great time playing with the other kids at the playground. A couple of girls asked him how old he was. He said "three". Then he ran over to me and said, "Mum, am I still three?".
He climbed over these green bars for the first time!!
Our morning started out with a phone call from Auntie Tracy, who is *enjoying* strict bed rest in Holly Springs, NC (another post on that later, I'm sure).

Then we went to Jordan's 2nd birthday party in the wonderful sunshine. Unfortunately it has now disappeared! Might have to get my slippers on...

Got the Lurgy..

Last night I went to bed so early because I felt a cold coming on. I must have been tired out from working two full days, then I had Chelsea yesterday. Or maybe I just caught it off Fletcher who has had a runny nose for days and days and days!!

Been a bit more diligent about giving him Pamol today though. Went to the pharmacy this afternoon to pick some more up.

So other than that, I have done very little! Been looking through the house budget this afternoon (that was a more positive experience than I thought!!) We bought a heat pump today. It is going to be a floor console one that will sit nicely under the new TV, on the only wall we have in the lounge! That is a bit of a weight off my mind really. Nice to know we will have one for frosty nights next year.

I'll go and get ready for an early night.

Update from a Working Lady!

I am posting from work. I worked all day yesterday, and a full day today. I am filling in for the receptionist at work and doing my own work too. I have been enjoying being at work, I must say. However, I say that from the privileged position of having my husband at home with the boys. I am sure that if I was getting up the crack of dawn to organise myself for work and the boys for daycare, it would be a different story!!

Anyway, back to normal life tomorrow. Although I will be looking after Chelsea tomorrow!

We've been busy this week sorting out things for the house. I paid a big bill on Monday (at least I get some airpoints out of that!) and put a deposit on the kitchen. Met with the electrician and added a few lights and towel rails to the electrical plan. Unfortunately we've had big hold ups this week with the joinery. They ordered the wrong head flashings (whatever they are), and the correct ones won't be here until Thursday afternoon. So I hope that Chris will be back out there finishing off the cladding and putting in doors and windows from Friday morning. Still, there has been someone out at the house every day this week doing something, so that is encouraging.

I also got some test pots from Resene to sort out the colours for inside and also for our shadowclad exterior.

Back to work!

Zac's Birthday!

This afternoon at 2pm we went to Zac's 5th birthday party. I tried to get both the boys to have a nap before hand but I was out of luck.

Fletcher is very tired tonight and we have had a bit of trouble getting him down to bed. All silent at the moment.

We've had loads and loads of rain today. Jamie ended up being called to work so I went to church with the boys without him. They were going to do a fire drill today at church, but fortunately the weather was so bad they postponed it for another time.

Chris the builder phoned Saturday night to say there is a problem with the head flashings for the windows. So they won't be back at the house until Wednesday.

A busy week ahead for me, I am working two full days, filling in for the receptionist at work. Hope I can cope!!

New House Pictures!

We went out to the house this morning - I hadn't been out for a look for a whole week. Look what they had been up to in the meantime! Most of the windows & doors are in. And they have started on the cladding. I think the last picture I posted, it was just framing.

I am really pleased with how the joinery looks next to the palliside (the weatherboard look cladding). The palliside will not be painted - that is the colour of the house.

Here is my front door. I think it is so cool! There is a different cladding going around the front door. But I will post a picture when it is up.

Dave the Plumber came and piped it all up yesterday.

This morning we spent a good while sweeping up all the mess inside - lots of sand!! I lost interest after an hour or so, and so had Fletcher. So me and him went to the supermarket and home. Jamie stayed to do some more tidying & Lachie stayed to do more digging with the sand. Then our neighbours who are build came by and he had a good yarn with them, and talked about fencing!

A Birthday Party

Today we went to Joe's 2nd birthday party. Joe is in our coffee group so it was mostly coffee group Mums, and a few extras. The kids had an awesome time playing with all the toys. They even went to the neighbour's and played on their trampoline.

I didn't hear a peep out of my boys all morning, and Fletcher didn't even have any party food! Obviously he was full up from breakfast. (I have noticed a slight improvement in Fletcher's eating of dinner this week. I gave him lasagne and casserole, which he typically won't eat. He ate a bit of lasagne and had two helpings of the casserole!)

As you can see from the picture, this morning the sun was shining brilliantly. Now, not so much. I have the fire going - it is nice to be cosy inside. And I have three (yes, Chelsea is here today) lovely children ALL SLEEPING!! How lucky am I??

Just an at home day today. We did go in to town briefly this morning to do a few errands, including a visit to the orthodontist. I took the boys with me. It usually only takes 15 minutes so I decided it wasn't worth the trouble of finding a baby sitter. I took crackers and sandwiches for them and all you could hear was the sound of the boys munching!! Phew. I was very proud of them.

After that we went to the library and paid some bills.

I got a call from our project manager about half an hour ago. I need to go to the plumbing store THIS AFTERNOON and pick out all my bath taps and mixers. Luckily I already have stuff in mind! The plumber is going tomorrow to pipe it all up. How exciting!!

I see that the Population Adjusted Olympic Medal Table has been adjusted as we have won a few more medals....we are in the #2 spot.

Happenings...

Here is Lachie showing off the railway bridge he made a couple of Fridays ago.

It has a been a rather full few weeks. Jamie ended up being at the hospital that Friday night with his Poppa. Poppa had a bit of a bad turn at home. They think it was delayed concussion - he went to bed 8pm Thursday and woke up 5pm Friday with no recollection of anything in between. But from the state of his house it was clear he had been up to something. So he is now set up with one of those medical alarm bracelets, meals on wheels and daily visits by family. He is 86 and lives happily by himself in the house which he has lived since the 1960s. That was a bit of a fright for his children.

I drove him to Tauranga last Thursday to stay with his son John. I took the opportunity at the same time to visit a Lighting Plus store and pick the lights for the new house. I was very pleased with my decisiveness!

The house is coming along, plenty being done I guess, but not much of interest to the non builder!!

We finally got some more firewood (also on Thursday). I was in two minds about whether to get it, thinking that winter is nearly over and we probably won't use it all. However, it is supposed to be -2 degrees tonight so I am glad that we got it!! It was also quite a miserable weekend with the weather so it was great to have a warm house.

For those of you who know her, Yvonne Winger (spelling??) (nee Kennedy) had her New Zealand wedding ceremony on Saturday. Yvonne and Stuart got married in Gibralter about two weeks ago. Her family could not make it over there so they had a celebration here on Saturday. Then they are going to Ireland for a ceremony there!! She gets to wear her wedding dress three times. Lucky thing!

Jamie is back at work this week, but just doing day shifts to ease himself into it. He picked up a puppy on the weekend. Faris will be trained to be his new police dog over the next year.

To update you

Wow, nearly two weeks since I have posted.

After last post on Friday the 15th - about two hours after, Jamie went up to the hospital because he still felt absolutely terrible from his flu. He wasn't showing any improvement. Turns out he was badly dehydrated and had a throat infection and a minor case of pneumonia.

Anyway, once he started taking antibiotics for the infection he started to feel better. He was home all of last week though. It was nice to see him take it easy on the couch for a change.

A quick post while my potatoes cook...

We have just been out to the house for a look. The building wrap is on and the cladding has arrived - it will start going up next week. How exciting!! I need to take some photos though.

Poor Jamie has a bad case of the 'flu. He has been in bed since Wednesday. He's doing pretty well all things considered. But I think it will be a while yet before he is up and about.

We had Chelsea today and that went really well. We didn't go out - just watched the boys playing outside this morning.

A mate of Jamie's brought around a truckload of DVDs, so we might watch one of those tonight.

Me and Jamie just got home from an early evening out at the movies. We went and saw "The Painted Veil" (I know, its ages old but only just released here). We really enjoyed it. I would go so far as to recommend it.

Steve & Ann kindly looked after the boys for us. They were in town looking after Chelsea today, so its been quite a busy one for them!!

Its a cold night here - clear skies - because of all this rain we haven't had one like it for about a month.

This afternoon we had a family outing to Awakeri Hot Springs. We had a lovely ole time. At first Fletcher and Lachie were a bit nervous - but the nice temperature of the water helped. Fletcher was crying at the beginning, but by the end was giving us the heebie jeebies as he sauntered around, as confident as you like! Lachie also enjoyed walking around the toddler pool. Hopefully we'll do it again soon. (And unfortunately, I didn't take the camera, sorry).

On the way home we stopped at the house. The roof is completely on, but they have some loose ends to finish up. The first half of it went up on Friday, but it got too windy for them to continue. We had a look on Friday afternoon. We couldn't really see what it looked like, but there were some sheets of the corrugated iron on the ground we looked at. We were very concerned to see that it wasn't the colour we picked!! We stressed about that all Friday night. Then I went back on Sunday, and realized we had been looking at the wrong side!! Oops. What a relief!! So the roof is indeed the sandstone grey that we wanted!!

The kids are totally whacked, so I had better get them to bed.

I am having a very quiet afternoon. About half an hour ago Lachie went with Auntie Sarah to pick up Zac from St Georges and go home and play. He has been asking all week to go so he was very excited!!

It has been a lovely day here. Very warm and windy. Great for getting laundry dry. And great after two days of horrible weather. Yesterday, rather than going to work and sending the boys to daycare, I decided we would stay home instead! It was just too wet outside.

And of course the other advantage of having a nice day, is that the builder should be at our house!!

Hoping to get out for a walk a bit later, once Fletcher has woken up.

House Update - A Pictorial Timeline!

Playing in puddles

Earlier in the week we had a lot of rain. I gather there was a lot of rain here over the weekend as well. So by Wednesday afternoon, the lawn was over flowing.

I was about to take the boys for a walk but Fletcher wandered over to the huge puddle and started splashing. To show how different my boys are - I don't think that would have ever occurred to Lachie. Anyway, I told Lachie if he put his gumboots on (which he does not like to wear - again a stark contrast to his brother who ONLY wears gumboots!) he could splash too. He really enjoyed himself!!

They were both thoroughly soaked. I'm glad they had fun outside in the brief window of sunshine that afternoon!

Uncle Jim's 60th

Here are a few pictures I took at Uncle Jim's 60th birthday party on July 13th. I wish I had taken more, by the time I was getting into gear, my camera battery ran out!!

Look at them all! Six children plus "other halves" and two cousins. Oh, and a cute baby.

Me and the boys had a great day. They were both asleep in their carseats within five minutes of leaving!

Something funny..

I'm a bit of a royal family fan.

I found this on the net yesterday, what a giggle!

"If you have any poo, fling it now.."

I had my first ever poo flinging episode tonight. I was changing Fletchie's nappy and he whipped it out from underneath and flung it. The poo landed in a nice tidy pile on the wall!! Fortunately it was an easy clean job.

After I told him off, he gave me a hug and patted me on the back!

We are home again - arrived about 2pm, after our somewhat interrupted time away in Havelock North. Last Thursday (after our fabulous Ten Pin Bowling Expedition) Jamie got a call to say a good friend of his had been in a serious car accident. So Jamie drove down to Wellington Hospital to see him. He was there basically two days - he came back Saturday. No more news on Joel as yet...

And a big Tool Time salute (I know, that is sooooo old) to my husband who has done about 6 hours driving today. After driving home from Havelock North (not in the best of health), he then had to get in the work wagon again and go collect Cruz from the Rotorua kennels.

I've just done some baking so I better go and clean up the mess in the kitchen.

Hi there! I am posting live from Havelock North.

We all arrived here on Wednesday for a few days away. I enjoyed church with Mum & Dad this morning - I came home pretty shortly after the service ended and we are still waiting for them to arrive home.

Once I get home I will post a few pictures - including pictures from last Sunday at my favourite Auntie & Uncle's place....and our new house, which has framing up!

Thursday

I went to the orthodontist to get my braces tightened this morning. I ate my lunch and dinner fine, but now the pain is really setting in...! Hopefully by Saturday they will be back to normal. Meantime, I bought some soup to have for lunch tomorrow!!

We went out to the section/slab today. The concrete polisher came yesterday. He basically ground the top off the floor and exposed the aggregate. So we had a look at that - looks good! Took some pictures but I will put them up another day. The framing arrives today or tomorrow and Chris the Builder gets into it next Wednesday!

I went to the supermarket around 4.30pm tonight, and when I arrived home I got a bit of a fright - there was an ambulance at the neighbours!! Rosemary took a hit on the head from a fence paling as it fell over. She got badly concussed. So her two little ones came over to our house for the evening while they took her to the hospital to check her out. Lachie & Aislinn had a fabulous time playing together. And wee Callum did great too - he is pretty much exactly the same age as Fletcher - maybe a month older. They just went home about half an hour ago - and fortunately Rosemary is home too.

I am definitely due for an early night - I got up far too early this morning and lit the fire so the house would be warm . On a positive note (or is it?), it is due to rain for the next few days so the temperatures will be much warmer.

Monday

It was about -2 degrees Celsius here this morning. That's about 28 F.

For some reason we didn't have our fire going, we just put on an oil heater this morning (duh!). We've definitely got the fire going tonight as we are expecting the same low again tonight. Brrr....!!

I went out to Rebel Sport this morning, hoping to get new walking shoes and clothes. There were lots of shoes on sale but none in my size!! And I tried on the whole store trying to find some pants. I settled on some Nike jobs - they are pretty thin though - not particularly "winter" pants. Still, they were on sale - the kind of sale you don't know about until you get to the till and get a pleasant surprise!!

A Pictorial Treat!

We had a quiet start to the day. Nowhere to go, nothing to do. Its nice to take it slow sometimes!

Fletcher has, I think, another tooth coming through. He was very grumpy this morning so I put him down for a nap at 10am! He slept for two and a half hours.

In the afternoon, we went to Awakeri Hot Springs. Jamie and Dave had been asked to do a Police Dog Display for the children of Te Teko School.

House Update #9

We picked our roof colour yesterday. It will be "Sandstone Grey".

Also went to the Bank today and lined up some more money!!

Went to the kitchen designer on Monday. After discussions with Jamie & Sarah I need to go back with a few changes. I went to go to the grocery store on Monday, but instead I purchased a new dishwasher (a Fisher & Paykel double dishdrawer). It was on sale - I got nearly $300 of RRP. I still have not gotten to the grocery store!

It seems I have the 'flu...

After our Weekend in Waipu, during which I had the flu, I came home and took it easy for a few days. Then I felt fine. Thursday night, I went to bed with a headache, which has been present ever since.

I went to the optometrist today, to make sure it wasn't my eyes that were the problem, and they weren't.

I didn't realise a headache was a symptom of the flu, but now I know that it is!

Its so weird, because I feel fine in every other respect, just a sore head.

So, if you're a praying kind of person, please pray for me!

If I don't feel any better next week, I guess I'll go to the doctor. Meantime, I don't want to waste my money on him telling me I have the flu, and to go home and rest!

Pictures of my (littlest) funny boy. I watched him tonight with a nail file, trying to shape his toenails - as he saw me do yesterday. I tried to get a photo but this was the best I could do.

Then I saw him getting some tissue to wipe his nose and then put it in the rubbish bin.

When I took these Lachie was already in bed. He didn't have a nap today (because we were at friends' for lunch) so he was very tired.

I am not feeling overly well myself. After I get some firewood in, I think I will go to bed.

Off to see a lady about kitchens tomorrow morning!

I'm feeling much better today. I went to work this morning. But it was totally great to just sit around home on Monday and Tuesday. Thank you Lord, that I don't work full time.

I did manage to get to the grocery store Tuesday afternoon so I could get some dinner on the table.

Jamie and Lachlan went and picked up a trailer load of firewood from Galatea yesterday. Not a whole lot, but better than nothing. Our fire is basically our only heating - we don't want to use the gas heater now we know how much water they produce - and the oil heater is only big enough to heat a bedroom.

The boys are asleep, Jamie has gone to work, so I guess I had better do some jobs around here!

Oh, What a Weekend..

We had our first weekend out of town for about six months. We went to a wedding up in Waipu, north of Auckland. We also took Jamie's Poppa along for the ride.

We started out on Friday night, dropping Fletcher with Steve & Ann about 5pm. I was a bit worried about how he would go, but by all accounts he was great. Lachie came with us.

Then we headed up to Auckland. We stayed in a (pretty crusty!) motel there for the night. Saturday morning we took Lachie to the airport to look at the planes and then headed for our bach at Langs Beach.

We were all really glad to get there. I think me and Jamie would have been happy to just sit back and relax but we had a wedding to go to, didn't we?!! Also by this time I was feeling worse and worse from a head cold. To cut a long story short, we were home early as the reception started at 4pm.

Then of course, the torrential rain started. I would have been happy to try and squeeze in an extra day there, but with the rain there seemed no point. So began our long journey home. I felt absolutely terrible in the back seat. And we made more stops than we normally would, as we had Lachie with us. It just makes the trip seem soooo much longer!!

We stopped for dinner at Steve & Ann's and were home by about 7.15pm. I think I was in bed by about 7.4opm! I feel much better than yesterday, but I don't plan on going anywhere, and wouldn't mind another nap.

To top it off, we left the cat inside all weekend!! She used a bath mat I had left on the floor as her toilet all weekend. Gross, yes, but at least she had the good sense not to use the couch or the carpet! Cats are fairly clean little creatures. Anyway, she doesn't seem any worse for wear after her little indoor adventure. Cats are fairly hardy little creatures too!! We WILL be getting a cat door at our new house!

And lastly, the wedding was lovely, the bride looked great, Rev. Dunn of Waipu Presbyterian did a great job of the ceremony...I just wish I could have enjoyed it in better health. And no, I didn't take any pictures of the weekend. None! Sorry. (Well, I do have some of the wedding, but seeing as you don't know the B & G...what's the point?)

House Update # 8

The concrete floor was poured on Friday! I haven't been out to look at it yet.

We also picked our joinery colour ("Ghost Grey") and our front door last week.

I really should make some progress on the kitchen front soon!

Wow, I have really not been in the blogging mood, have I?

We had a nice morning doing jobs around town and going out to the section. The concrete is almost ready to be poured, the section is looking quite tidy, you can see all the plumber's pipes sticking up. The floor looked bigger today. But then I think once the concrete is down it will look smaller again.

Hopefully I will post some pictures after the weekend!

Just a few hours after my last post...

I bought this really expensive mop at the store on Monday. And the matching bucket. All up it was nearly $40. (Mum, its one of those Vileda mops you have). I am pretty pleased with it - it certainly kicks those other "sponge on a stick" ones to the kerb. And I have mopped my kitchen floor twice this week!! Lord knows it was overdue.

Off to bed I think...

12 days since my last post!!

Its Thursday afternoon. Its cold! The fire is on. Jamie is shortly off to work. The boys are having (or supposed to be having) naps. So I thought it was a good time to post!

But what do I have to post about?? Things out at the house are progressing, I may drive out there this afternoon for a look. I have been to work briefly this morning and did my usual hours yesterday.

I took this picture of Fletcher on Monday night after me and him had been for a walk. I know I haven't taken many of Lachie lately, but he is just so unco-operative when I get the camera out, I can't be bothered with it. Fletcher went to bed without his dinner a few nights this week. He is not the type of child you can coax into eating. If he doesn't want it, he won't eat it. Last night I made macaroni 'n cheese, which I knew he would like. He think he likes mac'n cheese, scrambled eggs and sausages. And maybe tinned spaghetti. Those meals are not exactly chock full of vegetables!

The Weekend So Far

Lachlan headed off with Jamie Friday afternoon to stay with his Nana and Grandad. Jamie was going to Rotorua for work, so dropped him off on the way.

Jamie has been working in Murupara Friday & Saturday night, but staying in Rotorua.

Saturday afternoon I drove up to Lake Rotoma with Poppa and Fletcher, for Ann's birthday. Jamie came out for the afternoon too. We had a lovely afternoon. Then me and the boys stayed on for dinner and got home about 8.30pm.

Fletcher was soooo overtired after a busy day. I brought him into my bed at 10pm because he was crying and I didn't want him to wake Lachie. Then at 2.30am Lachie came in too! You would think it would be easy sharing a king size bed with two babies, but that wasn't the case. I didn't feel like I got much rest!

I got up at just before 6am and lit the fire because it was cold and I didn't fancy freezing my way through the morning.

All the boys are having naps - yes including Jamie! He is tired after his weekend of work and didn't get much rest at the motel they were all at.

House Update #7

This picture below is taken by me standing in our bedroom. Can you see the pile of dirt nearest me? That is two of the bedrooms. To the left, on the otherside of the trench, is our patio.
This picture taken again, from our bedroom and looking toward the patio and living room.
I'm not sure what the function of those boards are - maybe to help the builder measure out and do the levels?? Can you see the trench and then the wire and post fence? In between that is how much yard we will have on that side of the house (Basically 3 metres all the way round, except by the garage, where it is 1.5m)!! Also the pile of dirt is our patio (that patio is featuring alot today!)

The section slopes off quite a bit under the garage, so we are getting lots of fill from the neighbour's, who just had to dig their section out. So it is actually great timing that they are building when we are!!

Here is Fletchie posing for a photo with Chelsea. Moments later he was trying to push her off as he heard the concrete mixer outside and wanted to have a look at that!!

They say that there are less photos of the second child, but that is certainly not the case with Fletcher! Here he is eating his breakfast with Chelsea's Tender Bear. Chelsea arrived at 7.45am and he woke up at about 8am! He is a great one for sleeping in.
